Cancellation/Missed Lessons
Please be aware that your lesson time is reserved for you! I work very hard each year to create a schedule based on student requests and I plan to work and get paid for those hours. I expect that you will honor this time with the same attention you give to other activities.
Included in your membership is a weekly lesson time with your teacher (The studio will be closed on holidays and days off-calendar will be emailed to you) Refunds and credits will not be offered for cancelled lessons. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice WILL NOT be rescheduled/made-up. Sports events, parties, etc. are not acceptable reasons for cancelling a lesson without reasonable notice. All lessons cancelled by the teacher will be made up. These policies are enforced to protect the stability of the teacher’s income and respect both for the teacher’s time and the student’s education. However as life happens, and vacations and other holidays arise on both sides, I am happy to be flexible about rescheduling, as far as it is not detrimental to having a consistent schedule for student or teacher.
In order be eligible for a make-up lesson, the student/parent must give at least 24 hours’ notice. (This gives me time to adjust your schedules.) If a student cancels the day of their lesson due to sickness, I will offer a makeup lesson.
Make-up Lessons
- The parent is responsible for cancelling their lesson by texting the teacher.
- The parent is responsible for scheduling a makeup through their MyMusicStaff.com account.
- No tuition credit or refund will be given for lessons missed without at least 24 hours’ notice.
- Make-up lesson Credit(s) expire 120 days after they have been given
- Each student will get 6 make-up lessons per year. Teacher cancellation do not count towards these.
- **For travel to home students only: I might be able to add 15 minutes to your lesson to make up the missed lesson, or the parent can schedule a zoom makeup/in-person lesson at Miss Julisa’s studio.
Illness
It is mandatory that all students stay home when they are ill. The Piano we use is a shared space and can spread the germs students bring to class when ill. If your child comes to class ill or unwell they will be sent home. All students must be fever-free for 24 hours before attending their lesson. I am happy to accommodate with a zoom lesson(with notice) when students are experiencing milder symptoms such as cough, runny nose etc. Lessons that may be missed due to illness can be rescheduled, should my schedule allow and enough notice be provided.
Care of Students/Punctuality
Julisa is not responsible for providing before or after class care for the in-person students. Students are not to be left at the house extra time before or after class. Please do not drop children off earlier than 5 minutes.
Most lessons are scheduled back-to-back, so please try to arrive on time so you receive the time you’ve paid for. We cannot give extra time for students who arrive late, as this is not fair for the following student, or for the teacher’s schedule. Parents must not drop children off earlier than 5 minutes before their class. Students must be picked up immediately following their class. I cannot be responsible for overseeing students outside of their lesson.
Practice
Daily practice for at least five days of the week is expected. This is a crucial part of their musical development, practicing should become part of their routine. Length of practice will vary based on the student’s level of advancement. It is the parent’s responsibility to schedule and enforce daily practice. The weekly assignments should be viewed as “homework.” Completion of homework and thorough preparation of assignments for each lesson is expected.
The discipline of daily practice leads to progress which fuels motivation to continue to practice and progress. Parents are expected to be actively involved in practicing with beginners and young children until they reach an age where they can be more self-directed in their practicing.
I reserve the right to dismiss any student due to frequent absences, disciplinary problems, overdue tuition payments and/or parental noncompliance with the policies.
